"So what's up with the Sindh card?"
"What ever do you mean?"
"I just want to know whether the Sindh card is still usable?"
"Of course, it is. There is a Sindh card, there is a Punjab card, there is a Pathan card, there is a Baloch card though that one was left in the rain for too long and is kind of wet with few trying to dry it...actually let me revise that statement - no one seems to be drying the Baloch card."
"Don't be facetious. You know precisely what I meant when I asked what's up with the Sindh card!"
"If you want to know whether the Sindh card can only be played by the leader of the PPP, mind not the PPP jiyala or a PPP MNA or a PPP MPA, but its chairman or co-chairman or whether it can be played by the MQM and/or the Sindh nationalist parties without adequate representation in the elected national and provincial assemblies then I guess I would be compelled to answer that the Sindh card may no longer be solely the prerogative of the PPP chairman."
"And the new state of affairs is courtesy former Law Minister?"
"Well, the final decision about the commissionerate system's short lived life in Karachi and Hyderabad was not his."
"But he is heeded in the Presidency..."
"Hey, if the decision maker decides to listen to anyone it's not the fault of anyone if his flawed advice is heeded if you know what I mean."
"Strangely enough I do. But I would like to say that the MQM can only play the Karachi and the Hyderabad card and the Sindh nationalist parties have mobilised the Sindhis to protest the two systems in Sindh today - the commissionerate in Sindh excepting Karachi and Hyderabad but the PPP is by far the largest party in the province and...."
"Right, but the biggest challenge to the PPP chairman playing the Sindh card is coming from Sindhi PPP leadership."
"You know I don't understand one thing. It's the Sindh assembly that has defied the President's wishes the most - it was Sindh that challenged the federal government's decision to allow FBR to collect sales tax on services, it is Sindh that challenges Rehman Malik's order to re-register all arms licences previously issued through Nadra network, it is Sindh that is now challenging the President's wishes with respect to the commissionerate system..."
"That's true - never thought of it that way. So what about the decision of the Sindh PPP MPAs not so long ago allowing the President to do whatever he deemed appropriate to deal with the Karachi situation."
"I guess that was just hogwash, but let me tell you one thing: notwithstanding what we have said today if the PPP leader wants to bring Sindh to a standstill he still can..."
